European manager of the year for the second time in a row

City Self-Storage once again win the European Manager of the year award!!

At the recent held FEDESSA ( Federation of European Self Storage Associations) conference in Vilamoura for all self-storage operators in Europe, City Self-Storage for the second year in a row won the European Manager of the Year award. This year it was a shared first prize with a site manager from France from another operator.

Marieta Castillo started working for City Self-Storage Spain 5 years ago. She started as the manager of one site. Today, she is in charge of Sant Boi and Mataro. These are the two biggest challenges of all of City Self-Storages´s sites because they are located in small towns quite far from Barcelona and these sites are 80 kilometers away from each other.

In our Sant Boi site in the last 2 years, Marietta increased the income by 31%, the EBITDA from negative to positive, and the occupancy from 63% to 91%. In our site in Mataro in the last 2 years, she increased the income by 70%, much improved EBITDA and the occupancy from 52% to 91%. One of her major strengths is her ability to create a strong and lasting connection with her customers. She also knows how to build a strong and happy team.

"Once again our employees have set the standard for the industry, and we are extremely proud of this" says Niels Meibom-Larsen, COO for City Self-Storage Europe. He further states "It is first and foremost a credit to Marieta and her team, but of course also to the Spanish organization who work extremely hard and customer orientated in all aspects of the business. This is highlighted by the fact that we also had the site manager for Hospitalet and St.Eulalia in Barcelona, Christina Rodriguez Gómez, coming 3rd in the same competition. City Self-Storage will continue to build and create our results based on a superior attention to customer needs and satisfaction, as well as an innovative approach to creating new enquiries for our services"

At the recent held FEDESSA ( Federation of European Self Storage Associations) conference in Berlin for all self-storage operators in Europe, City Self-Storage proudly won two awards – for European Manager of the Year and Special Achievement Award.

Casper Pedersen, site manager in Skovlunde, Denmark (now also sales support manager in Denmark), won the award for increasing the occupancy from 66% to 88% for the largest City Self-Storage in Europe, through a period of 2 year, as well as increasing income by 29% during the financial crisis. Excellent customer service, expanded product offering, key account management, networking and an out-of-box thinking in how to attract potential customers to the site was the reasons for Casper winning the award.

Laura Perez, former site manager in Bon Pastor, Spain (currently Sales and Marketing manager for Spain), won an additional Special Achievement award.  Laura had kept occupancy over 91% since 2007 in a heavily competitive area, with 3 competitors within 0.5 miles, through excellent customer service where she makes every single customer feel at home. She has gained an unprecedented reputation throughout the organization for the work she has done and the sales orientation she carries.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for City Self-Storage in general, and the two individuals in particular, to win two prestigious European awards given to the best in industry” says Niels Meibom-Larsen, COO at City Self-Storage Europe. He further comments “It highlights the importance of people factor and the possibilities to separate you from the competitors through excellent customer service in a highly commodity like industry. Furthermore it demonstrates how innovative thinking in terms of generating enquiries, expand the product offerings, and maintaining a key relationship with your existing customers are vital. These areas will be a continuous importance for City Self-Storage in the future and both Laura and Casper will be excellent examples for our other employees to follow.”
